Sts. Cornelius and Cyprian

2 Corinthians 4: 7-15, Ps 125, John 17: 11-19

Martyrs in common.

The death of a martyr reminds us that we all carry the life and death of Jesus Christ around in our bodies. The soft persecution of Christians in post-truth societies must be borne with a martyr’s courage and faith. The world hates the faith conviction of martyrs because it speaks quietly of the truth about life. The lying life of pride, which the world much prefers, boasts about all those aspects of human life which St. John records as not being part of Jesus Christ’s life. I must dedicate my faith every day to Jesus Christ simply because he consecrated his life to telling the truth about God.
