Prayer

People flocked to Jesus because they wanted something from him. Do we only, or mostly, pray when we need something from God? God welcomes our prayers for our personal needs and the needs of others, but petition is only one aspect of prayer. If we are to live in loving relationship with God, then our prayer life is part of that relationship and should comprise all the elements of a dialogue between two lovers. Worship, thanks, praise, contrition, as well as petition, should all be part of our dialogue with the God who loves us and is present to us. The Lord’s Prayer is our perfect model.
