The Lord has pity

In the Book of Judges, people are making appalling choices, yet the Lord has pity on them. God’s insistence on our freedom amazes and confuses me, yet gives me hope when I fail, and hope for others who make destructive life choices. The Lord has pity and doesn’t give up on us. The wealthy young man in the Gospel seems ‘good’ at everything but wants assurance that his ‘good’ deeds will get him to heaven. Worldly success is quantifiable, so he measures whether he has done ‘enough’. Does his sadness touch us because we share his questions? Jesus invites us to live ‘sold out’ for God. What do you keep away from Jesus?
