Discern God’s way

In the Old Testament, ‘this generation’ sums up those who are faithless and perverse. The marketplace suggests the city and the centre of public life. Compared with John’s ascetic behaviour, Jesus seems normal, yet, he too is rejected by powerful elites. Matthew identifies Jesus as Wisdom, the one sent to reveal God’s way, but who is rejected (Proverbs 1:20-33). The words and deeds of Jesus disclose who he is to those few able to discern. Do I belong to ‘this generation’ or am I among those who can discern who and where Jesus is?
