The generous heart

The widow gave two of the smallest coins in circulation, but they are a profound symbol of her sacrifice of support for the Temple and her inner dedication and generosity.

This is in contrast to the hypocrisy of the elite, who give from their surplus and keep up the practice of piety while draining the resources of the poor.

Sometimes we can fall into that trap of hypocrisy but there is a way out through the ‘widow’s way’ – re-dedicating ourselves to prayer and being generous of heart – in dealing with those around us, especially those in need.
