Divine authority

The Pharisees used legalistic language to trap Jesus. Their words were designed to condemn him, no matter which way he answered. Here, they question his authority. This suggests that Jesus had not been trained as a Pharisee and they considered him an outsider. I carry the tension of this dialogue into the present moment. Have I mentally judged people who don’t share my faith? Do I believe that the way they worship God is wrong? I must admit I’ve had those thoughts. And in that, I have made God too small.
