I did not come to call the virtuous, but sinners
We all struggle to follow Jesus and live his life. However, in the end, when each one of us comes to be really honest about ourselves, we have to admit that we are sinners. Nevertheless, in spite of our weakness, Jesus loves us. He calls us to follow him as he called the tax collector Matthew. And Matthew was hardly a virtuous man at the time. So it can scarcely be a surprise that Jesus calls you and me to be his apostles through our Baptism and Confirmation. Each day Jesus says to us “follow me.”
