Knowing my pride

It is a life-time’s work to unseat the power of pride in my life. Jesus Christ knows about my pride. He was fully human but chose not to have his love tainted by pride. St. Paul points out that pride can sneak up on me. He warns me to be aware of its active and dormant presence in my life. Dormant pride leads to spiritual sloth which can hide behind an active Christian life. Active pride, which I easily recognize as fouling my love, feeds off my dormant pride. This bears thinking about in prayer time. It is worth pondering the power and authority which can help me keep pride out of my love.
