Do not be afraid

In the midst of the hardships of mission, God’s protection surrounds each disciple. The persecutions described do affect many today but may seem remote from our situation today. We may need to ask ourselves, if we have never experienced discomfort and hardship, are we really living out our baptismal commitment? Perhaps we are fitting in too easily and comfortably into the prevailing values of society. Three times Jesus reassures the disciples not to be afraid because God is with us when we make choices to stand apart from the crowd.
