Friendship

It is often said that a dog is a man’s best friend. If that is true, it is a somewhat unfortunate truth. Forming friendships with one another is such an important element of a happy and fulfilling life. It is also an integral part of our spiritual journey and an essential element of our relationship with God. Jesus calls his disciples his friends. He insists that Peter be ready to offer and receive love. Today’s scripture describes the faithful friend as a rare treasure, something beyond price. Our dog may be a good friend but is our best friend only by default.
