Go in peace

There often can be a sense of deep satisfaction when some significant event comes to a happy end. That satisfaction is there sometimes, for example, at the end of Mass or the celebration of a sacrament. It was there for the priest, Simeon, when he received the child Jesus in the Temple. He had seen his saviour and his life was complete. He could go home to God in peace. It is what we pray for when a life comes to an end. ‘Go in peace’ we pray. ‘Rest in peace’.
