Philippians 1:18-26, Ps.42, Luke 14:1,7-11

The right place at table

Jesus chose his teachings well. At a meal in the house of a leading Pharisee, he talked about people who wanted places of honour. I’ll bet that gave them indigestion. Compare this with St Paul’s writing to the Philippians. Paul was so in love with the Lord that he wanted to die and go to him, and at the same time stay alive and work for him. I don’t think we’d ever have Paul’s problem, but sometimes it’s good to ask ourselves: ‘What is most important in my life?’
