St. Barnabas

Acts 11:21-26, 13:1-3; Ps. 98; Matthew 10:7-13

Give without charge

Barnabas was sent to Antioch. He was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. It is no coincidence that it was in Antioch that the disciples were first called ‘Christians.’ Like Barnabas, we are all called to do what is good, to be filled with God’s Spirit and live the faith by which we are called ‘Christians.’ In this way, we continue the work of Barnabas, proclaiming the kingdom of heaven by our lives. By the grace of God, we have all received without charge. We are called to give of our lives without charge.
