The Beatitudes, a blueprint

Because Israel has strayed from God’s way, Elijah calls down a great famine on the land. In the Gospel reading, Jesus gives us a blueprint for acting that will assure us of God’s presence and action in our lives. This blueprint is, of course, the Beatitudes. We are blessed by God if we live by these Beatitudes. To live the Beatitudes is to live God’s way: a way of abundance not famine; a way of life that leads to eternal life.
