True friendship

Today’s Gospel reminds us that Jesus not only chooses us and calls us friends – he also sends us out to ‘bear fruit.’ And so our faith is to be something alive and active. Catherine understood that and became a major figure in the Church, especially in seeing the Papacy restored to Rome from Avignon. In what ways can it be said that I am ‘bearing fruit?’ What is Jesus asking of me because of his choice of me to be his friend?
