Prudence and Foresight

Jesus praises a steward entrusted with his master's goods but who used his master’s money to serve his own needs. Is it unusual that Jesus should regard dishonesty as being acceptable? But this steward appears to be a smart “cookie” as he is commended through his handling of his master’s finances in that he has the foresight to make provision for his own future. Where is the message for us? Is it about ensuring that through prayer and other devotions we have safeguarded our future against a spiritual crisis?
