Jesus the cornerstone

Using easily understood imagery Jesus confronts the chief priests and elders. He quotes Psalm 118:22 about builders rejecting the cornerstone. It’s the first stone in a masonry foundation; all other stones align to it, so it positions the entire structure. Isaiah 28:16 states God is laying a cornerstone. How tempting to see this story as only relevant to Jesus’ earthly life. But who is the cornerstone of my life? Peter and Paul refer to Jesus as the cornerstone (Acts 4:11, 1Pet. 2:7 & Eph.s 2:20) of the church. This challenges a private ‘me and Jesus’ spirituality with questions about how we relate to his church.
