Herod and Christ

There is no greater contrast than that between Herod and Christ. The worldly Herod symbolizes all that is death-dealing; Christ all that is life-giving. The choice between Herod and Christ is the choice between the death of the spirit and eternal life. To choose Christ is to choose life: a life made visible in and through love. To choose Christ is to pattern our lives on Christ who “is the same today as he was yesterday and as he will be for ever”.
