The foolishness of God

So many of the choices and decisions we make must pass the tests of good logic and common sense. But God’s ways are not the same as ours. The choice that the first disciples of Jesus made to leave their boats and nets, their homes and families and to come, follow Jesus, made no human sense. So, too, the decision of the pioneer Marist missionaries to the Pacific to leave Peter Chanel on the Island of Futuna where he would meet a martyr’s death was full of risk. But the choice they made did bear witness to their trust in the foolishness of God.
