Forgiveness

The story in today’s gospel of the woman taken in adultery is a wonderful lesson for us in forgiveness. Jesus does not condemn the woman for her sin. He forgives her. He invites her to accept forgiveness from him and, perhaps, to forgive herself. He also enables the pharisees and scribes who brought her to him to withdraw their condemnation of her. Perhaps, they were also guilty of sin. Perhaps, they, too, experienced forgiveness from Jesus and, so, were enabled to forgive the woman rather than condemn her.
