Detachment

When we see people interviewed after a natural disaster standing by houses which have been completely destroyed, they all say that the loss of their possessions doesn’t matter because they are alive. Our faith requires the same perspective. This detachment can be painful and Jesus recognises this when He speaks of the cross each follower must carry. When Suzanne Aubert came to N.Z. without her father’s blessing it must have been a heavy cross for her, which was relieved only when on his deathbed he wrote saying he thanked God she had had the courage to resist him.
