Happy With the Gift?

It’s very easy to take our faith for granted – it may literally have been a defining dimension of who we are since we were baptised soon after birth. But if familiarity doesn’t necessarily breed contempt, it can certainly breed a certain level of comfortableness and predictability that leads us to undervalue what we have been given. As today’s Gospel reminds us, not everyone is given the gift of faith, – to receive it, as we have, is to be given something of immense value. Are we happy – do we rejoice – at what we have been given by God?
