Ezekiel 24: 15-24; Canticle Deut. 32:1-12; Matthew 19:16-22

Come, follow me.

Sometimes I’ve met someone and just like that, I love him or her for no apparent reason. Something in them connected with something in me. It can also happen when I’m on retreat or in deep discussion. Suddenly there is this “oh wow” feeling as a truth hits home. That’s what I think happened in Matthew’s gospel. On a profoundly deep level the young man knew that there was more and he couldn’t go there. Sad for him and sad for what might have been. And it’s never too late to go there, whatever there might be. Step out in trust today.
