Influence the world for good

Does the Sermon on the Mount teach us to be shrinking violets? Not at all, if we are to believe Jesus’ compelling images of salt and light. We are meant to be in the thick of things, in the front lines. We should be trying to influence people and institutions for the better through a life of power-filled blessedness. Otherwise, we are as useless as flavourless salt or as a lamp whose light is concealed.
