Sitting with mystery

The setting and timing of Jesus Christ’s declaration of unity with his Father seem important. Listening to the gospel today is always going to sound odd to those who are not inclined to spend time contemplating Christ’s mystery. If I find these readings of St. John not making sense, can I just sit with them patiently? Can I be attentive to them with love in my heart rather than wanting satisfactory answers?
