The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary (S)

Genesis 3:9-15, 20; Psalm 98:1-4; Ephesians 1:3-6, 11-12; Luke 1:26-38

Tainted nature’s solitary boast

With one exception, we have all been injured by falling off the cliff of Original Sin. The Lord Jesus is at the foot of the cliff to heal us through his passion, death and resurrection. He saves us after we have fallen. He saved the Blessed Virgin before she fell. In other words, Mary was conceived immaculate. It’s hardly surprising then that in our Gospel reading the angel hails her as full of grace. She was always full of grace. Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
