St Irenaeus (M)

Genesis 18:16-33; Ps103; Matthew 8:18-22

The journey never ends

It is unlikely that someone whose father had just died would be down the road listening to an itinerant preacher. More likely, the man meant he could not follow because he had an obligation to bury his father when, in the future, he died. Whatever the truth, engaging in an academic exercise about what Jesus meant is a convenient way of avoiding the call to action. If we are faithful followers, we have nowhere to lay our heads. Is it time for me to move on? Am I still listening to the call?
