Death or life

The nursing department classroom had two images on the wall: the medical symbol of a snake around a standard, and a crucifix. In today’s first reading the Israelites acknowledge that they are dying because they have sinned. God grants life to those who look at the bronze serpent. Jesus warns his listeners that they will die in their sins unless they believe that he is the one sent by God. We Christians look to the Giver of Life when we look at the cross. Do I remember to raise my eyes to God in times of difficulty?
