One Bread

The disciples who neither saw nor understood received harsh words from Jesus. He warned them against the corrupt yeast of the Pharisees. Perhaps he said something like this: “Two big feeds I shared: one on Jewish territory and one in a Gentile region. And not even one eye opened! Oi Aue!!” The one loaf on the boat was surely Jesus himself, who brought Jew and Gentile together. Today’s gospel invites us to listen deeply and with open eyes if we are to find Jesus in our table-fellowship with one another.
