Romans 10:9-18; Psalm 19:2-5; Matthew 4:18-22

The call to discipleship

Jesus’ invitation was simple and direct. Andrew and his companions had no time to prepare, yet they immediately accepted. They accompanied Jesus not knowing what the future held for them. Were they too impulsive? Should they have hesitated and thought about this invitation, sought others’ advice? It is staggering to think of what they did. But it should also challenge us. If we have truly heard the call of Jesus in our hearts, have we committed ourselves to him as completely as Andrew and his companions did?
