When I am poor then I am rich

In different ways Jesus and Ezra have the same message for us: when we are poor and depend on God for everything we are truly blessed. It must have been somewhat frightening for Jesus’ little band to depart without any of the security that most of us need to go on a journey, let alone a missionary journey! Ezra in exile speaks about the little “remnant” who have been stripped of their homeland and above all their temple and he praises God who has inspired the king of Persia to rebuild their temple in Jerusalem. “When I am poor then I am rich”, says Paul. Do I experience this truth in my life as a follower of Jesus?
