Good news to the poor

Jesus announces his mission as it was foretold by the prophet Isaiah. His mission is to the poor, the blind, to prisoners or to those oppressed in any way. The Gospels reveal that Jesus was totally faithful to this mission.

Do we realize that as followers of Christ we have the same mission, which is the mission of the Church and of every Christian? Who are the poor in our area? In our parish? In our world? Who are the oppressed? To what extent have I, as a Catholic, announced that the good news of a God who loves unconditionally, a God who is on the side of all those who suffer, is not only for after death but also for this life here and now?

Suffering is not what God wants for his people. God is in Jesus bringing justice and healing to the world and we are called to do the same.
