ST CHARLES LAWANGA AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS

Acts 19:1-8; Psalm 68; John 16:29-33

Courage to believe

St Charles Lawanga was martyred in Uganda in 1887. He had been an attendant to the king and a fervent Catholic. He was put to death with his companions because of their opposition to the king’s desires. In today’s gospel reading, Jesus warns that those who believe in him will have trouble in the world. Those who gave their lives because they believed in him were very brave. We honour them and pray through their intercession for courage in our beliefs and the faith to believe that Jesus has conquered the world.
