Understanding

Jesus comforts his listeners, assuring us of the genuine gifts of the Holy Spirit. He will speak God's words and truths. This is similar to a conference when sign language is used. The translator signs the exact message being spoken to listeners. He signs the words of the speaker, not his own opinions. Our parish had a Requiem where the Mass was signed, along with the celebrant speaking. Although we hadn't learnt signing, we received a deeper emotional understanding of the Mass and sermon. Similarly, the Holy Spirit translates God's message so we can all take it on board.
