Fruitful love

Jesus prepares to leave his disciples, and he feels great pity for them. Like us sometimes, they cannot understand the spiritual aspects of life. Jesus again used nature to illustrate his teaching. Jesus - the vine; we - his branches. If we are self-indulgent and selfish, the fruit we bear will be sour and withered. If we are pruned by trials and hardships, we become humbled and humane. Our fruit is large and sweet and pleasing to God. Fr Mel Caulfield SM RIP, always kept a small whakatauakī -- proverb -- on his person "My weakness is my strength".
