Total Commitment

Enthusiasm is desirable in a follower – commitment is essential. Today’s Gospel makes clear that being willing to follow Jesus involves more than a simple assertion of enthusiasm. Discipleship requires a willingness to put the things of God before all other obligations and desires. Because of this, we will be asked each day to make choices between the things we are familiar and comfortable with and the things that appear in our lives as opportunities and challenges. Our level of commitment, rather than our level of enthusiasm, will determine the priorities in our lives.
