God incarnate

In our Gospel reading, albeit obliquely, Jesus claims to be God. Jesus claims he is greater than the wisdom given to Solomon. Was it not God who gave this wisdom to Solomon? Jesus claims he is greater than the threat of destruction given to the people of Nineveh through the prophet Jonah. Was it not God who issued this threat through Jonah?

Our Gospel calls us to believe that Jesus is indeed what he claims to be: God incarnate. Jesus fulfils God’s promise to teach and shepherd God’s people himself: and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.
