St Nicholas

Isaiah 25:6-10; Psalm 23; Matthew 15:29-37

Immense generosity

Saint Nicholas was the Bishop of Myra in Turkey and died in 343. He has come to be known as Santa Claus in secular manifestations of Christmas, but he was first and foremost a lover of the poor and children, to whom he showed great generosity. It is good to recall that like us, he too encountered Christ in the scriptures and the breaking of the bread. Even though he lived long ago, the witness of his courageous life still encourages us today.
