Tilling the soil

If I take the Word of God to heart my life becomes like rich soil. Sometimes I am not as receptive to the Word as I ought to be. I must till the soil of my life constantly, cultivating it, not letting it dry out or become too weedy. Am I willing to dig deeply into my life or do I rake the same old surface over and over? Rich soil produces fruit that lasts because it is alive with the presence of the Word. My thinly raked soil can look lively for a time but the Word cannot take root in it.
