The embrace of Christ

Children can make their First Communion as young as seven years because of Pope Pius X’s (1910) desire that children not be deprived ‘of the embrace of Christ (or) the food of their interior life.’ The Eucharist is the treasure above all treasure, for which we should be prepared to give up everything. Lord Jesus, help me to hold the gift of yourself as my most valuable possession, and to give up whatever would loosen my attachment to you. May I never leave your presence feeling sad or lost. Amen.
