Depth

The disciple is a person of depth. The Christ of Holy Saturday descends into the depths of the disciple. Christ descends into the psychology, sexuality, and bodily life of the soul. The disciple often resists, desiring the Word to rest in shallow ground. Yet Christ has nowhere to lay his head (Luke 9:58), so the descent is unyielding for those who freely surrender. This is the path on which the disciple learns to abide in Christ’s love (John 15:4).
