Twelfth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Zechariah 12:10-11, 13:1; Ps. 63; Galatians 3:26-29; Luke 9:18-24

Love and the cross

Zechariah prophesied that God will pour out his spirit of kindness and prayer, but then goes on to speak about one who is pierced, mourned as for the loss of an only child. Christ is the kindness and prayer of God – God’s love and God’s communication of that love, a love pierced and nailed to a cross to expose our wretched need for salvation and to show by what path salvation is attained. So, if we belong to Christ, should we be surprised to hear that we, too, must carry our cross and follow him?
