Where is your treasure?

Our first reading has all the ingredients of political intrigue, murder and character assassination to satisfy any best-selling novel. But what is related in this reading is no fiction, for just as the human heart knows no limit to love so the human heart is open to every kind of corruption. This is why Jesus says, ‘Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. If the eye is sound, the body is filled with light. If the eye is diseased, the body will be in darkness.’ What, then, is our treasure? Knowing that, we will know our hearts.
