Go the extra mile

In our first reading, Jezebel’s villainous plot succeeds. Naboth is murdered and his land is forcibly taken. When power and greed take hold, the human heart is open to all kinds of injustice and wickedness.

In the Gospel reading, Jesus encourages us to go the extra mile, to do more than what is required. In this way, none of us can be accused of being petty, let alone unjust. We will be judged by the fruits of our actions.
