Ezekiel 18:21-28, Ps.130, Matthew 5:20-26

A Clean Slate

My childhood was permeated with a theology of a judgmental God, who kept a list of all my sins with which he would confront me on Judgment Day. We know better now and the truth is beautifully reflected in today’s readings:

“If you kept a record of our sins Lord, who could stand their ground? But with you is forgiveness.” (Psalm 130)

“None of the crimes he has committed will be remembered against him” (Ezekiel 18: 22).

“Our own sins having been forgotten and forgiven, we should do the same to others.” (Matt 5; 24-25)
