Living water

Jesus’ conversation with the Samaritan woman – who would normally have been considered beyond the pale in orthodox Jewish society – clearly shows his message is for everyone: for adulterers, Samaritans, Jews – anyone who is thirsting for God. His promise to all is to refresh our souls with “living water” which will sustain us. It is the water of our baptism, the water of eternal life.

The Lord is my shepherd. There is nothing I shall want. Fresh and green are the pastures where he gives me repose. Near restful waters he leads me to revive my drooping spirit.
