My beloved

“I hear my love.
See how he comes”. (Songs 2:8)

These words from our first reading today echo Elizabeth’s words to Mary, in our Gospel, that, at her approach “… the child in my womb leapt for joy!” Words for us to reflect on as we prepare to celebrate the imminent arrival of that same child. Jesus is, for each of us also, “My love”. Jesus is God’s messenger of love. Dare I think that he is talking to me when he says: “Come then, my beloved. My lovely one, come.” God’s love is very personal and very intimate.
