“Shoulder my yoke and learn from me” are words which so perfectly and succinctly define what our daily relationship with Jesus must be if we are to live as his disciples. A more modern metaphor might be “You be the car and let me be the driver”. Like the “I am the vine and you are the branches” metaphor in St John’s Gospel. Joy Cowley, in a recent talk, said that she begins each day by repeating Mary’s words to her Son at the wedding reception at Cana: “Do whatever he tells you to do”. If only we could!
