Judith 8:11-17, 28-31, Ps.32, Matthew 6:25-34

Let God calm your anxiety

Worrying is like being on an exercycle using energy going nowhere. Matthew and the saints call for loving trust in God. Mary McKillop said, “Do all you can with the means at your disposal and calmly leave the rest to God” (1891). One of our great prayer traditions is to attend silently to our breathing in God’s presence. You may like to sit and spend a few moments listening to your breathing, gently saying the name ‘Jesus’ with each breath, then slowly read this Gospel passage out loud two or three times, letting God calm any anxiety.
