Acts 8:26-40, Ps 66, John 6:44-51

Bread of life

Jesus is insisting again in this gospel passage that he is the bread of life. It must have been difficult for his listeners to accept. We understand now that he was describing the Eucharist, where bread becomes his body. We take the transubstantiation on faith. But do we appreciate it at every mass, or take it for granted and wake up at the great “Amen”? Lord, help us to appreciate your body.
